Ambassadorial Visit to the HDF Baltic Air Policing Quick Reaction Alert (HDF BAP QRA) Detachment

Ferenc Bányai, the Ambassador of Hungary accredited to Latvia has paid an official visit to the HDF Baltic Air Policing Quick Reaction Alert (HDF BAP QRA) Detachment at the Šiauliai Air Base, Lithuania recently.

The Ambassador, First Secretary Ms. Annamária Bányai-Balázs Cultural Attaché, and the representatives of the Latvian public media service were received by Brigadier General Csaba Ugrik, the Commander of the HDF BAP QRA Detachment, who then gave detailed technical information about the task-system of the Baltic Air Policing Mission, the details of the Alpha Scrambles conducted so far, and the engagements based on the co-operation with the NATO forces stationing in the region.

Ambassador Ferenc Bányai highlighted the developments planned and implemented so far as part of the Zrínyi 2026 National Defence and Armed Forces Development Program, emphasised the importance of the BAP mission, praised the achievements, and thanked for the professional work of the personnel, which enhance the reputation of both the Hungarian Defence Forces and NATO.

During the visit, the guests could get an insight into the process of scrambles, were introduced to the capabilities of JAS-39 Gripen fighters, and could also view a start and a take-off.
