Heading a delegation of four, Col. László Garas – the commander of the Hungarian NATO Force Integration Unit (HUN NFIU) – recently paid a visit to Slovakia. The delegation participated in coordinating meetings that were primarily aimed at discussing the most important issues in the establishment and effective operation of the Slovak and Hungarian NFIUs and the analysis of the lessons learned so far.

The meeting provided a good opportunity for the representatives of the Hungarian NFIU to hold direct discussions with their Slovak partners, develop personal relations and talk over the most important issues in their special fields, which both countries need to deal with during the establishment of their own organizations and the process of preparation. Accordingly, the main topics on the agenda of the meeting were issues related to public affairs and the press, as well as those concerning the legal status of the organizations, their staffs and manning levels. At the same time, the delegations also discussed how to perform the tasks of real-life support and those to be tackled upon reaching milestone events and dates in the operation of the organizations.

In addition to the commander of the Slovak NFIU and his assistants, the force planning and defence policy experts of the Slovak Ministry of Defence and senior officers responsible for liaising with and coordinating NFIUs at the Joint Force Command (Brunssum) and at the Headquarters of Multinational Corps North-East (MNC NE) (Szczeczin, Poland), the meeting was also attended by the commander of the already operating Lithuanian NFIU and his deputies, who shared with the participants the valuable lessons learned so far.
