Lieutenant Colonel Eric Howland Appointed as the Commander of the HAW Heavy Airlift Squadron

Lieutenant Colonel Eric Howland of the United States Air Force (USAF) has been appointed as the Commander of the Heavy Airlift Squadron (HAS) of the Heavy Airlift Wing. The official change of command ceremony took place on 25/7 at Pápa Air Base.

The Heavy Airlift Squadron is one of the three units of the multinational Strategic Airlift Capability Heavy Airlift Wing. HAS team is comprised of the flying crews of the wing operating three Boeing C-17 Globemaster III long-range cargo jets and specialized functions of Safety, Intelligence, Tactics, Training, Standardization and Evaluation, Mission Security Forces, Flight Records and Scheduling.

Lieutenant Colonel Howland of the United States Air Force assumed the command of the Heavy Airlift Squadron from Lt Col Christian Langfeldt of the Royal Norwegian Air Force (RNoAF) that served as the Commander of the HAS since November 2011. Lt Col Howland has served with the HAW since June 2013 as an Instructor Pilot and Director of Operations.

Before joining the HAW Lt Col Howland has held numerous positions in operational flying units and headquarters staff in the United States Air Force. A command pilot, Lt Col Howland has amassed more than 4,500 flying hours in various transport and jet trainer aircraft.

Lt Col Howland joined the United States Air Force in 1996. He graduated from the Ohio University in 1996.
