Arriving in Paris, the Secretary General said, “I am proud to join the unity rally in solidarity with the people of France and for a common front against terror. The attacks in Paris led to the death of many innocent people. They targeted believers and unbelievers, Christians, Muslims and Jews. They were also attacks on the free press, free opinion, and our open societies. These are call values for NATO and for all of us, and open societies are our best defence against terror."

Mr Stoltenberg praised France for being at the forefront of the fight against terorism from Mali and the Sahel to Iraq. He said, “we stand with our Ally France, we stand in full solidarity with the people of France, and we stand united for our values."
