Mr. Fogh Rasmussen said that Allies appreciate the “steadfast support" provided by Azerbaijani troops in Afghanistan and appreciate the political support to NATO operations through over-flight and transit lines. Azerbaijan also contributes to the training of Afghan security forces.
The Secretary General said that continuing reforms in Azerbaijan is also of importance and said that NATO will continue its assistance to the country. “I believe we can deepen our dialogue and cooperation across the spectrum of our partnership," he said. Mr. Fogh Rasmussen added that this month also marks the 20th anniversary of the Partnership for Peace programme. Azerbaijan has been a staunch member of the programme since its beginning. “Our Partnership for Peace is founded on a commitment to democratic values and principles," the Secretary General said, adding that the programme offers a strong framework for dialogue and cooperation.
