Hungarian Participation in Operation in the Mediterranean

Since early 2015, the number of illegal immigrants – most of them setting out from Libyan ports – has significantly increased in the middle region of the Mediterranean Sea. In response to the ensuing tragedies claiming thousands of lives, and to prevent further loss of life at sea, the European Council made a decision on 23 April to mobilize available EU forces and coordinate their efforts.
