The official aim of the chief of defence’s visit is to further strengthen the Croatian–Hungarian military-to-military relations, which are already excellent at the levels of staff officers and implementation. It can be stated that since Croatia’s accession to NATO in 2009, the bilateral military relations between the two countries have continuously been developing, among which two especially successful fields are education-training and the cooperation of the Special Operations Forces.

The discussions of the two countries’ chiefs of defence covered a number of current topics, and during them, both countries placed great emphasis on the stabilization of the Western Balkans and regional security issues. These included the handling of the migration situation, about which they agreed that the protracted crisis poses a long-term challenge, which the countries of the region can only handle by making joint efforts. The other main topic of the discussion was the possibility of developing bilateral relations, including the scientific research centers, the development of the Joint Terminal Attack Control (JTAC) and airlift capabilities, and the cooperation in education and training.

On the second day of his official visit, General Šundov traveled to the HDF 59th Szentgyörgyi Dezső Air Base, Kecskemét, where he saw a demo of the maintenance of Gripen aircraft.
