Col. János Csombók, Head of the General Staff Force Planning Directorate will take over responsibilities in NATO’s peacekeeping mission in Kosovo (KFOR) as deputy commander from his Austrian colleague, Brig.-Gen. Christian Reiner.

It is not the first occasion when a Hungarian soldier is to assume this leading position, since earlier, between 2015 and 2016, Brig.-Gen. Ferenc Korom, Head of the General Staff Operations Directorate was already serving as DCOM KFOR for a year.

In preparing for the assignment, Col. János Csombók visited the area of operations, where he met the 16th rotation of the Hungarian Defence Forces KFOR Contingent (KFOR-16 HUNCON) in Camp Novo Selo. Lt.-Col. Attila Budai, the commander of the Hungarian contingent informed the general about the tasks of the contingent and the KFOR Tactical Reserve (TACRES) Battalion, which now consists entirely of Hungarian soldiers.

After the report, the current and the incoming deputy commanders of KFOR and their delegations observed a complex crowd and riot control (CRC) display, during which they got a glimpse into one of the main tasks of the battalion.
