The members of the Traditionalist Hussar Association of Szentegyháza and their families, all in all 97 persons, took the Hungarian oath of allegiance in Csíkszereda before Dr. Csaba Hende, the Minister of Defence of Hungary on Sunday, November 27. After the ceremony they celebrated a Mass of thanksgiving in the St. Andrew Roman Catholic Parish Church of their native village, Szentegyháza. The strains of the Hungarian and the Székely National Anthems solemnised the historic moment.

“Is it all a dream, or is it real, what is happening right before our very eyes?" – The Parish Priest Sándor Portik-Bakai asked during the thanksgiving Mass in the St. Andrew Parish Church. “It is our obligation to protect and defend the rights that we are entitled to" – he said. “We have been living and we have been present here for 1100 years. If we walk the path of good morals, God will give us the crown of life." – the parish priest pointed out.

The Minister of Defence of the Republic of Hungary Dr. Csaba Hende, State Secretary for Culture Géza Szőcs, the Ambassador of Hungary to Bucharest Oszkár Füzes, Consul General of Csíkszereda Dr. Pál Zsigmond Barna and the Chairman of the Rákóczi Association Dr. Gáspár Ugron, the officer of the Hussar Banderium of Szentegyháza attended the Holy Mass.

“May you wear it in good health and with the help of God for the Homeland!" – with these good wishes presented Hussar Captain József Mihály the hussar shako to the Minister of Defence Dr. Csaba Hende and the Consul General Dr. Pál Zsigmond Barna, who were admitted as honorary members by the Hussar Association from the day of the oath of allegiance.

“I’m crossing the Királyhágó, I have lost my hussar shako" – the Minister of Defence cited the lyrics of the song. Then he immediately added: “I have found it!" Before the altar he promised the “brothers-in-arms" to try to be worthy of wearing the shako.

“The Hungarian Hussar is a model to be followed, because he is the first among the soldiers" – the Minister of Defence stated in his festive address following the Holy Mass in the Gábor Áron Community Centre. He added: it is a great privilege for him to become an honorary member of the traditionalists.

Dr. Csaba Hende awarded a book on military history to the Captain of the Hussar Association and his deputy, and a badge depicting the coats-of-arms of Hungary to each of the members of the Hussar Association. He exhorted them with the thought of Széchenyi: “Everything is hard for one person, and nothing is impossible for many".

Géza Szőcs, the State Secretary for Culture said: if he met Prince Csaba, he would tell him about Mohács, Nagymajtény, the world wars, and also about the exemplary and heroic perseverance of the Székely people around the borders of the country.

“The tears of our Grandfathers were not shed in vain!’ – said the mayor of the settlement, Mrs. Ella Mária Burus. Then she said she believed that the writer’s words are real: “Behind your back there stand half a million of Székelys". And after this bright Advent Sunday “We shall bear more patiently the burdens that fate imposes on us".
