The “Charlie” Company of the KFOR Tactical Reserve Maneuver Battalion (KTM) has recently reached Full Operational Capability (FOC). The company is made up of Hungarian troops stationed in Camp Slim Lines, Kosovo. During the crowd riot control (CRC) task, the Portuguese “Bravo” Company of the battalion was playing the role of a “rock-hard” opposing force (OPFOR). The Portuguese sub-unit created realistic conditions with clacking shields and flying water bottles, sticks and tires…

The CRC practice was held at an abandoned airfield near Vrelo. The Full Operational Capability (FOC) validation exercise was preceded by a long training period. Composed of Portuguese troops, the OPFOR used various techniques and employed all conceivable tools to test the readiness of the Hungarian maneuver company. While playing the role of rioters, the Portuguese troops did not handle the Hungarian peacekeepers with kid gloves – they threw at them everything close at hand. Due to the rainy weather, they threw so much mud on the Hungarian troops that they were almost unable to see what was happening beyond their shields.

The Hungarian peacekeepers pushed back the “protesting" crowd along several hundred meters. They negotiated all obstacles excellently and held their ground throughout. They reacted properly to the situations they had never encountered before during earlier training.

At the end of the validation exercise, Lt.-Col. Jose’ Tavares Das Neves, the commander of the KTM stated that the Hungarian troops are fully trained and have accomplished all tasks excellently, so “Charlie" Company has reached Full Operational Capability (FOC) and is now ready to deploy in the whole area of Kosovo. Lt.-Col. János Gacsal, the commander of the contingent was satisfied with the results and congratulated the participants on the successful exercise.
