A Sound Mind in a Sound Body

The soldiers serving with the 14th rotation of the HDF EUFOR Contingent (EUFOR-14 HUN CON) are well aware of this too. They have one hour every day for doing sports in Camp Butmir, Sarajevo.
The whole world is now in a fever of football, as the World Cup has started in Brazil. Hungarian soldiers, however, do not only like watching football matches but also play this sport with pleasure. On the five-a-side football pitch in Camp Butmir, the Hungarians have opportunity to play football for 1.5 hours twice every week. In the same room, they can also play volleyball, basketball, table-tennis and badminton.
There are barbells/dumb-bells as well as power and cardio trainers available for the peacekeepers in a separated fitness room of the gym, so they can not only keep their weight but have opportunity to burn off fat and build their muscles. Those who like to run can do so by running around Camp Butmir, where one lap is about 3.7 kilometers.
Those who don’t like running outdoors – or in case of bad weather – can work out with the treadmills available in the gym.
In addition to optional sports activities, daily physical training is of course part of the overall training scheme too, as it contributes to the soldiers’ high-level task execution, their preparedness, physical condition and healthy development. Good examples of this are company-level running, the joint physical training sessions and the completion/negotiation of various obstacle courses in a pre-set time.
