Change of Chief of Staff at NATO HQ Sarajevo

On 9 August, at a transfer of authority ceremony, Col. Vilmos Nosza – Head of Department for Doctrine and Field Manual Development, HDF Military Augmentation, Preparation and Training Command – relinquished the responsibilities of chief of staff of NATO Headquarters Sarajevo. His successor assuming the position is Col. Ferenc Könczöl, Commander, HDF 12th Arrabona Surface-to-Air Missile Regiment.

The ceremony was hosted by (USAF) Brig.-Gen. Robert Huston, Commander, NATO Headquarters Sarajevo (NHQSa). The event was attended by Anikó Gyenge, Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Hungary Sarajevo; Lt.-Col. László Hajas, military and air attaché; COMEUFOR Maj.-Gen. Anton Waldner; EUFOR Chief of Staff Brig.-Gen. József Szpisják; as well as several senior national representatives and invited guests.

Brig.-Gen. Huston thanked Col. Nosza for his work and presented him with the NATO non-Article 5 Medal, also wishing Col. Könczöl every success. In his speech, Col. Nosza said thanks to Brig.-Gen. Huston and thanked the civilians and military personnel of the NHQSa for their devoted work and for the support he received from them during the time in his position.

In his speech, Col. Könczöl congratulated the outgoing chief of staff and said thanks for the assistance he received during the preparation and the handover-takeover of the position. At the same time, he pointed out that the staff of the NHQSa continues to support his work the same way it did in the case of his outgoing predecessor. He asked the NHQSa staff to provide support based on professionalism, self-confidence and strong commitment, and promised to fulfil the same on his part.
