Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (SACT), Gen. Stéphane Abrial was received by Minister of Defence Dr. Csaba Hende in his office on Friday, December 16. During the exclusive discussion mention was made about the multinational co-operation related to the “smart defence” NATO-initiative.

In the meeting, on the Hungarian side present were Gen. Dr. Tibor Benkő, the Chief of the MoD Defence Staff and Péter Siklósi, the MoD Deputy State Secretary for Defence Policy and Planning.

Dr. Csaba Hende highlighted that in consequence of the reduction of the defence budget caused by the economic crisis, and with an eye to the military advantages following from the closer co-operation, Hungary wishes to place an even greater emphasis on the multinational solutions. The agenda of the meeting included the following topics: the projects proposed by the NATO Multinational Approaches Task Force, as the Hungarian priority list is led by the medical support, which is envisaged by our homeland first and foremost in the framework of a German-Hungarian bilateral co-operation. Furthermore Hungary wishes to join in the co-operation in the fields of the Counter Improvised Explosive Device (C-IED) Training, in the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defence Capabilities (CBRN Defence), multinational logistics, and the live fire shooting ranges (Forward Air Control Capability included).

During the talks the partners agreed that the “smart defence" initiative will help the nations meet the challenges of the era, and taking into consideration the priorities and the chances, enhance their capabilities in collaboration with one another.
