Exercise Anakonda 2016 has ended in Poland. The command group and the designated staff from the Headquarters of the HDF 25th Klapka György Infantry Brigade (Tata, Hungary) have successfully executed the tasks assigned to them during the command post exercise (CPX).

The Anakonda exercises have been iterated in Poland every two years since 2006. Anakonda 2016 – this year’s largest-scale and most important military event of the Alliance in Europe so far – has immediately preceded the NATO Summit in Warsaw to be held in early July.

The exercise has demonstrated that Poland and the NATO member and partner countries are fully committed to Alliance security and defence.

Exercise Anakonda 2016 was running at 14 locations around Poland and involved a number of coordinated operations and tactical training events. The Tata Brigade executed its tasks in Warsaw, Bialobrzegi, Wengozewo and Nowa Deba. Attached to the US Army Division during the two-week CPX, the Hungarian Brigade HQ was working together with members of the US Army 2500th Digital Liaison Detachment.

The Tactical Operations Center (TOC) at the Brigade HQ was visited by LTG Frederick Benjamin Hodges, Commanding General, United States Army Europe (USAEUR), LTG Marek Tomaszycki, Commanding General, Polish Armed Forces Operational Command, and BG Gábor Horváth, Acting Land Forces Chief, HDF Joint Force Command. Prior to his current position, BG Horváth participated in the exercise planning process as then commander of the Tata Brigade.

During his visit, Gen. Hodges thanked the Hungarian Brigade for its active participation in the exercise and for its cooperation that greatly contributed to its success. LTG Marek Tomaszycki provided some guidelines for future collaboration.

The exercise objective was to demonstrate NATO’s defence capabilities on the eastern flank of the Alliance and to strengthen and underline the importance of putting collective defence into practice. In the field of modern warfare and response to current challenges, the exercise covered the full spectrum of threats, including the requirements of operational, tactical, asymmetric and hybrid warfare.
