Foreign Journalists Visit Pápa Air Base

On January 18 the group of journalists participating in a weeklong NATO programme arrived in Pápa amid a huge snowfall. The journalists coming from nine countries were interested in the Strategic Airlift Capability (SAC) program and its implementation.

First Col. Keith P. Boone, the commander of the Heavy Airlift Wing (HAW) outlined the implementation and current state of the SAC program, also touching on the opportunities of development and expansion.

Lt.-Col. Zoltán Vicai, the Chief of Staff at HDF Pápa Air Base, detailed the history of the unit to the present day, when, thanks to the investments, the striking transformation of the air base can be clearly followed.

László Szarvas, the deputy program director at the NATO Airlift Management Program Office presented the role, structure and operation of logistic support and the cost-saving use of the money invested by the member states participating in the SAC program.

Péter Losi, the head of the local Boeing Field Services briefed the press on the generation of resources needed for the repair and maintenance of the C–17 transport aircraft.

Col. Boone explained the journalist why the SAC program is important and what the advantages are of joining the program, which is an opportunity for every NATO member country.
