The National Security Advisor of the Japanese Prime Minister was received by the Minister of Defence

We are pleased to see that Japan shows a growing interest in the Central and Eastern European region – stated the Minister of Defence Dr. Tibor Benkő, following the courtesy visit of Mr. Sonoura Kentaro, the National Security Advisor of the Japanese Prime Minister.
In the context of the Zrínyi 2026 National Defence and Armed Forces Development Program, Tibor Benkő informed the National Security Advisor about the rise of Hungary’s defence spending to 2 percent of the GDP by 2024, which was greeted by the Japanese party. He highlighted that our priority is to guarantee the security and defence of Europe and of Hungary within that and with this in mind Hungary will create a powerful, modern army, which will be decisive in the region.
The Minister agreed with his guest concerning the need for the development of national armed forces. He reinforced that in accordance with Japan’s position, Hungary supports the continuation of the embargo against the North-Korean power, in compliance with the UN Resolutions. We consider it important that all the countries of the international community should comply strictly with the sanctions adopted.
