On the first week of training, the members of the Hungarian rifle company drawn from the HDF 5th “Bocskai István" Infantry Brigade participated in a squad-level live fire exercise on the range of Rukla. This type of LFX has the objective of facilitating synchronized action of the squad and providing squad leaders with opportunities to practice fire control and the movement of squad members during the execution of the tasks.

“Basically, this live fire exercise was entirely different from those we conduct at home, and that is why everybody liked it very much", Capt. Gábor Vastag, the company commander of the contingent said. “The company performed very well, and the Lithuanian partners were very satisfied with the task execution", he added.

Concurrently, as part of the common training event, the designated personnel of the company were firing Carl Gustav M3 anti-tank recoilless rifles in service with the Lithuanian armed forces.

Speaking about this special fire mission, 1st Lt. Sándor Jenei, the 2IC of the company told us that “we have learnt a lot of useful lessons on this practice. During the training, the trainers told us beforehand that we should anticipate a »forceful shockwave«, and indeed, it felt as if we had been slapped across the face with a wet towel."

Exercise “Baltic Training 2014" has the objective of familiarizing all soldiers with the tactics and operational capabilities used by the participating nations, so they can build interoperability and conduct exercises under winter weather conditions. According to plans, the troops will learn tactics, conduct FIBUA training and land navigation in forested areas.
