Hungarian Contingent, Attention!

The meeting initiated by the lieutenant-general – which was also attended by Maj.-Gen. Bernd Schütt, Commander, ISAF Regional Command North (ISAF RC-N) – started with a report from Col. István Juhász, contingent commander. In his presentation, Col. Juhász told the story of the role of the Hungarian Defence Forces in Afghanistan, introduced the training and advisory task system of the contingent and the MAT-3, the results achieved so far, and reported on the scope of potential Hungarian role in the theatre of war.

The general expressed appreciation and support for the training proposals of the report initiated by the MAT-3, whose introduction and use on a regional level would enable the Afghan capability development program to attain strategic objectives and the capability of independent operations.

Lt.-Gen. Anderson said that he still counts on Hungary in the capability development of the Afghan National Security Forces, and thanked all Hungarian soldiers serving in Afghanistan for the job they have already done and will do in the future.

The program continued with a technology display of the MAT-3. The Hungarian soldiers introduced the combat and motor vehicles and weapons used by the MAT in the area of operations. Lt.-Gen. Anderson inspected the NVGs, binoculars, laser range finders and the CIS devices on display, and the equipment demonstrating the medical capabilities of the MAT. He showed great interest in the lessons learnt during the upgrade of the 2003M desert BDU and the experiences of wearing it.
