Hungarian General Appointed Deputy Commander of KFOR
Szöveg: WO Sándor Koós | 2015. október 8. 12:57On 1 October Brig.-Gen. Ferenc Korom, Chief of the General Staff Operations Directorate took over the position and responsibilities of the Kosovo Force Deputy Commander (KFOR DCOM) in the NATO-led Kosovo peacekeeping force.
Currently more than 4,500 troops from 18 countries are serving in individual positions and various units in the Balkans area of operations. In addition to the command group and the staff as well as logistic and support elements, the Hungarian KFOR contingent contributes two maneuver companies to the international peacekeeping mission. The main tasks of the maneuver elements include military and law enforcement roles in crisis response and peacekeeping operations, area security, closure and control, patrolling, convoy and VIP escort and providing comprehensive support to all these tasks in the whole area of Kosovo.
The Hungarian soldiers also fill individual positions, mainly at the KFOR HQ in Pristina, where Brig.-Gen. Ferenc Korom officially took over the deputy commander’s responsibilities on 1 October. So far no Hungarian senior officers have filled such a high position in the control of NATO operations in Kosovo.
The transfer of authority ceremony was also attended by Maj.-Gen. Sándor Fucsku, Commander, HDF Joint Force Command, who personally presented the “Alliance Service Medal" to the outgoing deputy commander, Austrian Brig.-Gen. Anton Waldner.
At the end of the ceremony, KFOR Commander Maj.-Gen. Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta handed over the flag of the peacekeeping mission to Brig.-Gen. Ferenc Korom.
