The Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Defence delivered a speech at the opening event of the 14th Tisza Euroatlantic Summer University in the HDF Peace Support Training Centre. In his speech, he pointed out that the participants’ proficiency is a guarantee of open discussion as well as a lively, meaningful and effective professional dialogue, while their young age is a guarantee of seeking future-oriented solutions and answers.
After the former venue at Szentes, for the first time this year, the town of Szolnok is hosting this prestigious event, which is a meeting point for young intellectuals, security policy experts and the members of the Hungarian Defence Forces.
Ferenc Szalay, the mayor of Szolnok and Brig.-Gen. Imre Lamos, the commander of the HDF 86th Szolnok Helicopter Base, garrison commander also welcomed the students, stressing that Hungary’s second largest garrison town is proud of its soldiers and of being able to help them work as proficiently and effectively as possible. This year the program of the unique Summer University focuses on Hungary’s role and opportunities in the NATO–EU crisis management task system, paying special attention to the impact of the financial crisis on Central Europe and its consequences for defence policy.
The 80 participating students have been selected from among over 130 applicants. In the coming days, they will attend presentations, forums, consultation hours, cultural programs and write a final essay.
