Dr. István Simicskó pointed out that the decision made about the increased troop level and extension of the mandate of the Hungarian military contribution is a clear signal of our commitment to the fight against terrorism.
Speaking on behalf of his government, Ambassador Al-Obaidi expressed thanks for the activity of Hungarian troops serving in Erbil, for the extension of the mandate and the increased troop contribution, and for the Hungarian offers. The Iraqi government and the people of the country take joy in the liberation of Mosul, as significant steps must be taken to eradicate the Islamic State terrorist organization, and Iraq needs support to attain this goal.
At the end of the meeting, the minister of defence emphasized that Hungary considers it important to participate in the Iraqi reconstruction, since the stability of Iraq is in the interest of Europe too.
