On Wednesday, February 15 a four-member delegation of the Serbian armed forces arrived in Budapest to hold a planning conference at the HDF 1st Honvéd EOD and Warship Regiment. Led by Lt.-Col. Ivan Rictic, the delegation discussed this year’s exercise Iron Cat with the staff of the Hungarian warship unit.

Under the name Iron Cat 2012, the joint exercise is included again in the training scheme of the two countries’ warship crews in this year, within the framework of the four-year cooperation program that was signed in 2011. Last year it was the Serbs who hosted the Hungarian troops on the live fire exercise held at the Titel water shooting range, where they fired the weapons of the AM-type mine countermeasure vessels to hit the land-based and waterborne targets.

In 2012, the Hungarian Defence Forces are to provide the venue for the exercise, so the Serb warship crews arriving in Hungary will execute target tracking tasks as well as a land-based live fire exercise and demonstration of effects.

At the discussions, the staffs of the Serb and Hungarian warship units drafted a technical agreement for the ten-day exercise to be conducted in September and the schedule of the main programs. They also fixed the date for the next planning conference.
