On Sunday, in the morning hours, the personnel of the NSE-11 and the force protection (FP) platoon left with full gears for the range of Camp Marmal, where according to the monthly working schedule, they carried out a live fire exercise. Range Officer Capt. Dénes Melegh, the commander of the FP platoon assessed the execution and results of the LFX as excellent.
After the live fire exercise, the 7th rotation of the Special Operations Contingent arrived in full strength, which required thorough planning and other duties of the NSE personnel. After their arrival, the soldiers occupied their quarters and after a short rest, the integration practices began.
In what followed, early in the evening Col. Tibor Talabos briefly commemorated posthumous Maj. Krisztián Nemes, the commander of the HDF PRT EOD cell. Maj. Nemes arrived at Camp Pannonia, the PRT-4 camp on June 27, 2008, where he took over the position of posthumous Lt. Gyula Kovács who had been killed in action. On July 12, EOD technicians found IEDs on the road to Kunduz, around 50 kilometers from the camp. The captain was on an explosive ordnance reconnaissance (EOR) patrol with a local Afghan policeman when an IED went off. The policeman was wounded and Krisztián Nemes lost his life in the blast. Afterwards he was declared a soldier hero and posthumously promoted to major. The commemorators observed a moment of silence at the memorial site of their dead comrade.
