Szöveg: Ministry of Defence | 2017. április 26. 9:00On Friday, 21 April in Budapest, Minister of Defence Dr. István Simicskó received, on an office call, Milan Štěch, President of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic and the delegation headed by him.
During the discussion, the minister of defence emphasized that the Czech Republic is one of Hungary’s important strategic partners in the field of defence cooperation. In the framework of the exemplary cooperation among the V4 countries and the bilateral relations, it is important to strengthen partnerships too, because we are facing similar challenges in the Central European region.
It is a fact that the first countries Hungary was able to rely on in connection with the migration crisis were those of the Visegrád cooperation, and meanwhile Austria has also joined these efforts.
In taking action against illegal mass migration, the Czech Republic has been supporting from the beginning the steps taken by the government of Hungary, and stood up for the policy Hungary adopted on this matter. At the meeting, Dr. István Simicskó added that “we highly appreciate the assistance given by the Czech Republic with the protection of the southern border, and it is important that we take joint action to protect the external borders of Europe, including those of our country, as we must guarantee the security of our citizens".
At the meeting, the two delegations discussed, among others, the participation of the Hungarian Defence Forces in border protection against migration, the conceptual framework for setting up a common European army, the Hungarian system of recruitment and reserve, the modernization of the Hungarian armed forces, and the possibilities of cooperation in the field of defence industry.
During the discussion, the Czech side stated that they highly appreciate the traditionally good and fruitful military-to-military relations between the two countries. The two sides are committed to and agree on the continuation and further development of the close bilateral Hungarian–Czech cooperation.
