„Only those persons are eligible to serve with missions abroad who have been prepared both mentally and physically, speak languages and have fully mastered their profession!” – this was stated at a Medal Parade where the HDF National Support Element–Afghanistan and the Hungarian staff of the German Field Hospital received medals awarded by the NATO Secretary General.

The Chief of Staff of ISAF Regional Command-North (RC-N) and the commander of the Mazar-e Sharif military base also attended the ceremony. Col. Ferenc Séllei, the commander of the HDF National Support Element–Afghanistan and the national senior officer of the Hungarian contingents stationed in Afghanistan delivered a welcome speech, stressing that only those persons are eligible to serve with missions abroad who have been prepared for the tasks both mentally and physically, speak languages and have fully mastered their profession.

In his speech, Brig-Gen. Micael Byden drew a number of parallels between the past and present roles of Sweden and Hungary in international missions. Interrupting his speech, the troops observed a moment of silence to commemorate their Hungarian and German comrades recently killed in action. The general thanked the Hungarian personnel for their work and wished them every success in the quick handover and successful execution of the tasks.
