The professional day of the Hungarian–German fuel technology exercise Safety Fuel 2012 was held at the Hetényegyház base of the HDF Hazardous Material Supply Center on October 10. The event started with a presentation given by Brig.-Gen. István Baráth, Logistics Forces Chief, Hungarian Defence Forces Joint Force Command (HDF JFC). In his presentation, the general emphasized that this was the first time that an exercise of this kind was being conducted in Hungary with international logistic cooperation on a level like this. All this is in accordance with the challenges of the present and the future. He noted that in logistic terms, it is the fragmentation of resources and capabilities that poses the biggest danger, so the primary objective of the eight countries participating in the Joint Logistics project is to pool and share their logistic capabilities. He praised the work done by the personnel in the Hungarian–German cooperation and drew attention to a palpable result of the joint efforts, namely the Bulk Fuel Installation (BFI) whose workings was demonstrated on the professional day.

In what followed, the executing personnel held dynamic and static displays for the visitors. During these displays, they decanted fuel from a tanker, refueled another vehicle and repaired a damaged tank. Afterwards they introduced the process of establishing the BFI and part of the equipment they used.

Brig.-Gen. Baráth closed the professional day with a preliminary assessment on the so far completed phases of the exercise. In this, he pointed to the importance of the lessons learned and their analysis. The next task will be to integrate these lessons into the organization and implementation of the Exercise Capable Logistician 2013, which is to be conducted within the project in Slovakia next year.
