Renewed Shops in Downtown Pol-e Khumri

In addition to the causalities, the disaster took a heavy toll on the shops located near the fire, as several of them were completely gutted. At that point, Lt.-Col. János Somogyi, the commander of the HDF Provincial Reconstruction Team (HUN PRT) reassured the local shopkeepers that the contingent would do everything within its possibilities to mitigate their losses.

After clearing away the rubble, the local people started the construction works immediately, with the HUN PRT contributing the necessary material such as cement, paving slabs, paint and metal roof beams.

By assisting one another, the shopkeepers have managed to transform the row of shops almost completely in five weeks. One of them told us they hope that the clean, snow-white walls, the new arrangement of the interiors by high standards, and the shelves which are soon to be stocked with a wide variety of goods will entice the customers, and so their losses will soon be compensated.
