The 45 residents of the orphanage located in the town of Pol-e Khumri – the area of responsibility (AOR) of the HDF Provincial Reconstruction Team (HUN PRT-12) stationed in Afghanistan – unfortunately do not have the chance to grow up in a loving family. They lack the role models such as parents and grandparents.

The Recognition Is Forever

“This decoration will forever remind you of your having represented your nations deservedly and your having completed a tour of duty abroad that was not free from trials and sacrifices”, this was stated at a ceremony in Afghanistan, where the Hungarian, Albanian and Montenegrin soldiers of the 12th rotation of the HDF Provincial Reconstruction Team (HUN PRT-12) received the NATO medal.

C-IED Training in Mazar-e Sharif

On August 3 in Afghanistan, the personnel of the HDF National Support Element (HUN NSE) was introduced to improvised explosive devices (IEDs), the tactics, techniques and procedures (TTPs) currently used by the enemy and the counter-IED (C-IED) TTPs for preventing and defeating these devices. The classroom instruction was followed by a hands-on training session.

The camp of the HDF Provincial Reconstruction Team (HUN PRT) is a “small Hungary” in Pol-e Khumri, the seat of Baghlan Province in Afghanistan. The soldiers of the Hungarian contingent serve here on six-month tours of duty together with their Montenegrin, Albanian and Croatian colleagues. Before the rotations take place, the personnel receive a several-month pre-deployment training during which they familiarize themselves with the cultural and other characteristics of Afghanistan. The most important things, however are the professional skills and the coordinated work of the cells.

Renewed Shops in Downtown Pol-e Khumri

Nearly a month ago one local resident died and five others sustained minor and major injuries when a magnetic bomb emplaced on a tanker truck was blown up at the busiest hub of Pol-e Khumri.
