High-Ranking Visitors at Camp Pannonia

Richard Shirreff, Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe (DSACEUR) recently paid a visit to the camp of the HDF Provincial Reconstruction Team (HUN PRT). He was accompanied, among others, by Brig.-Gen. John Bullard, the Deputy Commander of ISAF Regional Command North (RC N).
The general and his entourage were received by Lt.-Col. János Somogyi, the commander of the PRT-12, Col. Antal Sipos, the commander of the PRT-13, Lt.-Col. István Tóth, the commander of the US–Hungarian Operational Mentoring and Liaison Team (OMLT) and Political Advisor (POLAD) Dr. József Nyerki.
Lt.-Gen. Richard Shirreff – who is going to visit Hungary soon – was given a detailed briefing on the role of the Hungarian Defence Forces in Afghanistan. The topics included the security situation in Baghlan Province, the CIMIC and CERP development projects, the ongoing transition process of security responsibilities, the tasks related to the withdrawal and the future of the OMLT. POLAD Dr. József Nyerki informed the general about the upcoming withdrawal of the PRT in 2013 and the future plans for diplomacy.
At the end of the briefing, speaking about the Hungarian troops’ performance and activities Lt.-Gen. Shirreff noted that they play an important role in the province and serve its interests well.
