Safety Fuel 2014

In the framework of the German–Hungarian logistic cooperation “Joint Logistics”, the fuel handling technology and interoperability exercise “Safety Fuel 2014” was organized by the Bundeswehr Logistic Command and conducted between June 29 and July 12 near Putlos, Germany.

At the invitation of Brig.-Gen. Wolfgang Gabelein, Deputy Commander, Bundeswehr Logistics Command, Brig.-Gen. István Baráth, Commander, HDF Logistics Centre and Col. Zoltán Schmidt, Chief of Logistic Forces, HDF Joint Force Command attended the VIP day of the exercise. The HDF Logistic Centre, the HDF Material Supply Depot and the HDF Joint Force Command contributed a joint specialist subunit and staff officers to the exercise, which is an important stage on the way to the generation of a joint fuel handling and storage capability (Bulk Fuel Installation (BFI), WARDAM-II) by the two nations.

Brig.-Gen. Volker Thomas, the commander of the 1st Logistic Brigade delivered an opening speech, and then representatives of both nations reported to the invited guests to inform them about the tasks assigned and executed during the exercise and the process of cooperation. On behalf of the Hungarian participants, Exercise Co-Director Lt.-Col. Elek Szabó gave a report. In what followed, dynamic demonstrations and static displays were held during the day, on which German and Hungarian logisticians showed their skills at operating a Bulk Fuel Installation (BFI) and, within it, the WARDAM-II pipeline network under field conditions.
