Between November 1–8, the NATO Exercise “Steadfast Juncture 2012” (SFJE 12) will be organized with the objective of developing and assessing the interoperability of NATO forces and within that, the command and control (C2) capability of the Allied Joint Force Command Naples (JFCNP).

Exercise Steadfast Juncture 2012 is a well-prepared NATO-led military response to a fictitious crisis situation, which will be conducted in the form of a computer-assisted exercise (CPX) including simulated tactical units. Estonia, the host nation of the Joint Task Force Headquarters will provide the required infrastructure, technology and administrative background.

The participants of the exercise will carry out the mission from seven different bases:

  • Amari Air Base, Estonia − Joint Task Force Headquarters; Multi National Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) Group; Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Joint Assessment Team,
  • St. Mawgan, Great Britain − Allied Rapid Reaction Corps (Land Component Command); CBRN Battalion,
  • Okehampton, Great Britain − Joint Logistics Support Group,
  • Fairford, Great Britain − Joint Force Air Component Headquarters (Air Component Command),
  • Toulon, France – French Maritime Forces Component Command (Maritime Component Command),
  • Mons, Belgium – Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE),
  • Stavanger, Norway − Joint Warfare Centre (Exercise Control).

Following the tactical-level exercises conducted this year (Noble Ardent 2012, Noble Ledger 2012, Noble Mariner 2012), this operational-level exercise is the next step towards next year’s certification of the NATO Response Force (NRF 2013) and its deployability in crisis situations.

The NRF is a high-readiness “multinational" force equipped with state-of-the-art technology. The allied force which includes the components of the land forces, the air force, the navy and the Special Forces can be deployed in any part of the world if needed.

The Hungarian soldiers on permanent tour of duty in Naples will also participate in the exercise.
