In a close circle of staff and family members, Ambassador Roman Kowalski presented
the State Secretary with the medal for his sustained efforts of many years to deepen the
traditionally strong friendly relations between Poland and Hungary and for maintaining and
fostering the excellent relationship and cooperation between Székesfehérvár and its twin
town, Opole.
In his thank-you speech, Tamás Vargha recalled the times when, as secondary school
students, they had recited Polish poems in the Hungarian–Polish friendship circle. Many years
later, already as a representative of the local government of Székesfehérvár, he got acquainted
with Janusz Karpinski, who is today Chief of International Affairs for the City of Opole. It
was then that the friendly cooperation began between the two towns, which has remained a
strong link for both sides to the present day.
