The minister’s visit to the Logistic Supply Centre

Defence Minister Dr. Csaba Hende paid a visit on July 30 to the Hungarian Defence Forces’ Logistic Supply Centre. The minister and his delegation were received by Col. (eng.) Albert Barnucz, the commander of the LSC, who recently returned from a general staff course, and Lt.Col. Zsigmond Leskó, the deputy commander of the organisation and acting commander.

Csaba Hende was accompanied on his visit by Maj.Gen. Zoltán Orosz, Deputy Chief of Defence Staff, MoD, Brig. Gen. József Horváth, Deputy Director General, Military Security Office, Maj.Gen. József Kovács, Commander, HDF Joint Forces Command, as well as Gen. (ret.) János Deák and Gen. (ret.) Kálmán Lõrincz, Chief Advisors, Ministry of Defence.

The commander’s report was followed by a formal meeting of personnel, where the defence minister said: thanks to the troops’ love for their profession and their country, the Hungarian Defence Forces are still functioning. Like he said, we need a more powerful, well-equipped, excellently trained defence forces.

Csaba Hende reminded servicemen to use less paper – he said the Hungarian Defence Forces use eight A4-size sheets of paper per soldier per day, while large amounts are spent on IT development. The minister added: the previous leadership has overspent the representation budget of the Ministry of Defence by forty million forints until the end of May, but no such thing will happen in the future. Csaba Hende also pointed out at the event that they will investigate corruption cases.

The minister said at the meeting: he demands and expects hard work from the troops. Speaking about future plans, he called attention to the voluntary reservist force to be set up, the development of a new career modell (and the accompanying raise), and the transformation of officer training. He also emphasised that the State Medical Centre operates under the old name Honvéd Hospital again, where the medical command of the general staff will be set up by October 1. The minister added: at the moment, the hospital has some 3,000 employees, among them several medical officers as well. Finally he said that the administration is aware that a powerful military that operates well is part of the country’s renewal.

Following the minister’s speech, the troops had the opportunity to ask questions. In response to one of their questions Csaba Hende said: they are planning to increase the number of personnel at the LSC. After the meeting, the delegation was shown the warehouses of the Centre.
