The Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE, Mons, Belgium) annually organizes a competition called “SACEUR Sport Trophy”, which involves six groups of nations competing in a different sport every month to win the sport cup of the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR).

This year’s third event was biathlon, where each team was composed of five male and one female contestants. The participants first had to hit five targets in three positions respectively (prone, kneeling and standing), which was made more difficult with a 1200-meter field run before every round. For each missed target, one minute of penalty time was added to the total time of the run.

The Hungarian soldiers serving at SHAPE regularly participate in these competitions as members of the “NATO SOUTH" Team. Lt.-Col. Csaba Csizmadia and WO Adrienn Banizs took all three rounds without a miss, so they actively contributed to the second placing of their team. The Spanish–Hungarian–Slovenian competitors achieved 87 out of the prescribed 90 points (with three misses) and finished second, only two points behind the winning team of France which had the best results both in running and shooting. The rest of the ranking is NATO NORTH, Germany, USA and the United Kingdom.
