NATO Military Committee Conference Starts in Budapest

The Military Committee, NATO’s highest military authority started its conference in the morning of Saturday, September 14 in Budapest by discussing current challenges, including the situation in the Middle East and in North Africa.

Gen. Knud Bartels, the Chairman of the Military Committee said that according to the schedule, the next issue on the agenda would be NATO’s role in Afghanistan and in Kosovo (the Western Balkans).

In his opening remarks, Minister of Defence Csaba Hende pointed out that the Hungarian Defence Forces intend to maintain the level of 1000 troops in operations in the future, so they have started planning the use of the forces that are no longer deployed with ISAF after their withdrawal from Afghanistan. The security of the Western Balkans, including Kosovo is a priority, and “military force is an important tool for guaranteeing security", Minister Hende said.
