Reconnaissance and military intelligence are coeval with wars. Military history shows that the efficiency, success or failure of reconnaissance can decide the fate of battles, wars and empires. The long-range reconnaissance subunits appeared at the beginning of the Second World War in the armies of the opposing states. Even today, these specially qualified soldiers constitute part of the armies of all states, and thanks to their special skills and knowledge, they can be deployed under all terrain and weather conditions. The special capability of the soldiers serving with such units requires a characteristic esprit de corps and camaraderie during the challenging training sessions and the tasks of special operations in Afghanistan or in the Balkans. In this book, the commanders of the former and present-day long-range reconnaissance subunits relate the history of their units and their experiences. Following their recollections, the authors give an outline of the future of reconnaissance and military intelligence. A Magyar Honvédség közreműködése Koszovó válságkezelésében, 1999–2011

A volt Jugoszlávia szétesése miatt Koszovóban is kialakult helyzet jóval bonyolultabb egy egyszerű területi hovatartozási és etnikai vitánál. A probléma rendezése rendkívül nehéz helyzet elé állítja az érintett feleket, mivel Koszovó egy olyan történelmi örökséggel rendelkező terület, amelyet gyakorlatilag minden ott élő nemzetiség a sajátjának akar. Koszovó biztonsági helyzete leginkább arra hívja fel a figyelmet, hogy a Nyugat-Balkán államai számára a valódi lehetőség a békés egymás mellett élésre, valamint az egyéb biztonsági kockázatok megakadályozására csak egyfajta nemzetek feletti unióban történő együttélés lehet. A Magyar Honvédség nemzetközi szerepvállalásainak egyik legnagyobb kihívása éppen ezért az ötvenezer fővel, harminckilenc ország közreműködésével megalakult KFOR békefenntartói műveleteiben való részvétel, amelynek keretein belül katonáink 1999 óta látnak el békefenntartói feladatokat Koszovóban. Ez alatt az időszak alatt számos kontingens váltotta egymást és járult hozzá a béke fenntartásához és a helyiek életkörülményeinek javításához. E missziós alakulatok működési körzetét, feladatait és mindennapi életét mutatja be könyvünk, számos dokumentummal és színes fotóval illusztrálva, amelynek eredményeként átfogó és sokoldalú képet kapunk arról a tizenkét évről, amely a Magyar Honvédség egyik leghosszabb, ám legeredményesebb NATO-missziójának tekinthető.

The Contribution of the Hungarian Defence Forces to Crisis Management in Kosovo 1999–2011

The situation emerging also in Kosovo in the wake of the disintegration of the former Yugoslavia is much more complicated than a mere debate on territorial identity and ethnic origin. The settlement of the issue lands the Parties concerned in difficulty, as Kosovo is a territory with a historical inheritance that is claimed by all the nationalities living there. First of all, Kosovo’s security situation calls attention to the fact that the real opportunity for a peaceful co-existence of the States of the Western Balkans and for the prevention of other security risks can only be co-existence in a certain kind of supranational union. Because of the above-said, the most important challenge in the Hungarian Defence Forces’ international roles is the participation in the peacekeeping operations of the 50,000-strong KFOR mission established by 39 countries. In the framework of this mission, Hungarian troops have been performing peacekeeping duties since 1999. During this period, several rotations of the HDF KFOR contingent contributed to the maintenance of peace and to the improvement of the locals’ living standards. Illustrated with many documents and colour pictures, the book wishes to present the area of responsibility, tasks and everyday life of these units in the mission. As a result, we get a comprehensive and diverse picture of the twelve years, regarded as one of the longest yet most efficient NATO-mission of the Hungarian Defence Forces.

Katonai alapismeretek munkafüzet

A munkafüzet a Katonai alapismeretek című tankönyvhöz készült. A leckék ismeretanyagának leglényegesebb elemeit, összefüggéseit dolgozza fel, és jelentős segítséget nyújt az érettségire történő felkészüléshez. Összhangban a tankönyvben megfogalmazott feladatokkal, a munkafüzet különböző típusú feladatai a problémamegoldó képesség fejlesztésén túl az önálló ismeretszerzésre is ösztönzik a tanulókat. A tanulók tudásának ellenőrzése mellett a munkafüzet hatékonyan használható az új ismeretanyag tanórai feldolgozása során, ami különösen igaz a térképes tájékozódási feladatok esetében.

The workbook created to the textbook entitled Basic Military Studies deals with the most important elements and connections of the lessons’ material, and provides a major help for the preparation for the maturity examination. In harmony with the tasks included in the textbook, the different types of exercises in the workbook encourage students to acquire knowledge independently, beyond developing their problem-solving skills. Besides testing the students’ knowledge, the workbook can be effectively used in introducing a new teaching material during class, which holds especially for the map-reading orientation tasks.

A déli harangszó Magyarországon és a nagyvilágban The Noon Bell in Hungary and the World

Törvényszerű és természetes, hogy az évszázadokkal korábbi események a múlt ködébe vesznek. Vannak azonban olyan sorsformáló és sorsfordító események, amelyekre még a kései utókor is szívesen gondol. Ezek egyikére a keresztény templomok legtöbbjében delente megkonduló harangszó is emlékeztet, és noha igen sokan tudják azt, hogy Nándorfehérvár/Belgrád váránál 1456-ban sikerült feltartóztatni a hódító oszmán sereget, egyre kevesebben tudják, hogy ez a harangszó erre emlékeztet. Pedig így van. Az oszmán fenyegetés elhárítására III. Callixtus pápa keresztes hadjáratot hirdetett, majd 1456 júniusában meghozta híres rendeletét a harangok megszólaltatásáról. Az eredetileg mozgósításra felcsendülő harangszó egy szűk hónapon belül, július 22-re a diadalt világgá hirdető harangszóvá vált, hiszen ekkorra sikerült a magyar sereget vezető Hunyadi Jánosnak és a kereszteseket fanatikus lelkesedésével magával ragadó Kapisztrán Jánosnak a nagy győzelmet kivívni. Ennek hírére a pápa örök időkre elrendelte a harangozás szokásának fenntartását. A nándorfehérvári győzelem nemcsak a Magyar Királyság elsősorban magyar, szerb, román, horvát, szász, szlovák népeinek a sikerét, hanem az ötszázötvenöt évvel ezelőtti európai összefogást is dicséri.

A déli harangszó Magyarországon és a nagyvilágban The Noon Bell in Hungary and the World

Regularly and naturally, events of bygone centuries vanish into the mist of the past. Some of them, however, are so formative and decisive that posterity recalls them readily. In most Christian churches, one of these events is recalled by the ringing of the bell each day at noon, and although many people know that the advance of the conquering Ottoman army was successfully halted at the castle of Nándorfehérvár/Belgrade in 1456, there are less and less who are aware that the noon bell is a reminder of this event. Yet this is the case indeed. To counter the Ottoman threat, Pope Callixtus III proclaimed a crusade, then in June 1456 issued a famous decree on ringing the bells. Originally a signal for mobilization, in less than a month, by 22 July the noon bell became the signal of the victory around the world. By that day, John Hunyadi, the leader of the Hungarian army and John of Capistrano, a preacher who fired the crusaders with enthusiasm through his fanatic zeal, were able to secure the great victory. On hearing about it, the Pope ordered the custom of the noon bell to be observed forever. In addition to being the joint success of the Hungarians, Serbs, Romanians, Croatians, Saxons and Slovaks living in the Kingdom of Hungary, the Nándorfehérvár victory is a excellent example of cooperation in Europe 555 years ago.

Az egykori és jelenlegi munkatársak, betegek humoros vagy szomorú történeteiről olvashatunk a könyvben, melyet azoknak ajánlunk, akik érdeklődnek az egészségügyi dolgozók mindennapjai iránt. A kiadványt olvasva egy titkos ablakon tekinthetünk be a minket gyógyító orvosok és nővérek szakmai életébe, így közelebb érezhetjük őket és sorsukat magunkhoz: „hétköznapi betegekhez”.
