American-Hungarian Breakthrough

Following the ceremony of raising the flags of the two nations, Colonel János Vokla, the Commander of the HDF Bakony Combat Training Centre (HDF BCTC) said thanks to the American Party for the long-time and effective support provided for the Hungarian Defence Forces. As he said, the main objective of the exercise lasting until 24th June is to test different fire control systems also by live firing. During the exercise the soldiers will assess how the various American and Hungarian systems are able to co-operate with one another. “This is one of the most important exercises of the year, and I do hope that with the joint work we manage to achieve the goals set" – the Colonel underlined.

In the exercise Breakthrough 2019, the American party participates – among others – with combat helicopters and several multiple rocket launcher and howitzer units. On the home side the 101st Artillery Division of the HDF 25th Klapka György Infantry Brigade will practice the control of the activity of the howitzer detachments of the two nations.

The military exercise forms an integral part of the high-visibility series of exercises, co-ordinated by the United States Army Europe (USAREUR), the main objective of which is to ensure stability of the region. Besides Hungary, certain parts of the series of exercises are conducted among others in Romania, Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria and North Macedonia.
