On Tuesday, September 3 the defence, military and air attachés accredited to Hungary paid a visit to the HDF 25th “Klapka György” Infantry Brigade of Tata.

Col. László Benda, the deputy commander of the brigade introduced the unit to the US, Finnish, German, Russian, Austrian, Romanian, Swedish, Serbian, Slovak, Turkish and Ukrainian attachés. He talked about the history, function, foreign missions and organizational structure of the brigade and the weapons in service. The colonel pointed to the role of the Tata soldiers in flood control operations in Hungary and the consequence management in the wake of the 2010 red sludge disaster. He also mentioned the well-functioning relationships with the civil society, as a result of which the brigade gives, among others, special attention to the protection of local flora and fauna on the military training area and range.

Afterwards, at a display of military equipment, the guests saw the firearms in service with the unit and the firepower of the BTR armored personnel carriers. They had opportunity to try out the small arms in service with the Hungarian Defence Forces, including the AK-63D assault rifle, the P9RC pistol and the most popular one, the Hungarian-made Gepard anti-materiel rifle.
