Due to an earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale, the area becomes inaccessible by road, and therefore it is necessary to launch a disaster relief operation to evacuate local people and provide medical treatment for the injured. Accordingly, the Hungarian platoon uses alpine technique in crossing the damaged dam, while a Bosnian platoon is airlifted to the disaster area by helicopter, where a local mountain rescuer team joins the military unit.
After recovering missing and injured persons and giving them first aid, a patient in critical condition is airlifted from the spot with the use of the medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) capability of a military helicopter unit operating in EUFOR’s area of responsibility. Eventually, the only way to evacuate the population from the disaster area is by water, with the help of the local police forces.
After practicing elements of the various tasks and phases, on the closing day of the one-week combined training the Bosnian and Hungarian platoons held a complex demonstration to show their skills in task execution. The event was also attended by the EUFOR Chief of Staff.
