“End of Tour”
Szöveg: HDF National Support Element | 2015. május 30. 7:00Hungarian troops completing their tour of duty were recently bidden farewell at a parade in Mazar-e Sharif, Afghanistan. Besides the Hungarian comrades, also present at the event were the leaders of the Train, Assist Advise Command – North (TAAC-N), the commander of the Multinational Support Battalion and the senior representatives of the nations stationed in Camp Marmal.
Col. Paul Sarat, the US Deputy Commander of TAAC-N praised the Hungarian troops’ high professional standards, discipline and dedication to the tasks they showed in their area of responsibility.
After the deputy commander’s speech, Col. Péter Balogh, chief advisor to the 806th ABP zone HQ said that “This has been a mission full of real challenges to us, Hungarian soldiers, and we have achieved significant results with our allies in developing the capabilities of the Afghan National Security Forces."
The commander pointed out that they provided training for hundreds of Afghan border guards and policemen, who are going to become key members of the Afghan security forces. The servicemen of the HDF Force Protection Platoon conducted 230 operations in support of the training and covered more than 38,000 kilometers by combat vehicles to guarantee the soldiers’ security.
For the first time in the history of the TAAC-N, the Hungarian advisors operated at a remote site, setting the whole staff into motion. Operation Balaton Wave involved some 40 Hungarian troops performing special duties.
“This could not have been done without the support of the members of the national support element, who were always ready to support their comrades serving in the theatre", Col. Péter Balogh said.
At the ceremony, Col. Gábor Lőrincz, senior national representative handed over a sport medal and a certificate to SWO László Pasztercsák who gave an outstanding performance during a sports competition organized to mark Hungary’s national defence day.
