One of the primary duties of the Hungarian “Charlie” Company in the KFOR Tactical Reserve Maneuver Battalion (KTM) is to provide fire phobia training for KFOR forces serving in Kosovo. This time, the Turkish troops had to overcome their fear of fire.

The Hungarian company has recently achieved full operational capability (FOC), and become qualified to validate the troops of nations designated to participate in crowd riot control (CRC) tasks. The fire phobia training is a special drill for peacekeepers which forms an integral part of CRC duties. It is spectacular and dangerous too…

Supervised by the Hungarian trainers, the Turkish troops practiced the proper postures, techniques and signals with which they can reduce the impact of incendiary bottles. The several-hour training started with a “dry run" during which fire was not employed, and concluded with the crack of petrol-filled burning bottles thrown on concrete.

The training session provided the participants with opportunities to reduce and overcome their instinctual fear of fire. The commander of the Turkish troops spoke highly of the Hungarians’ professional standards and thanked them for the thorough training.
