German Inspector General Volker Wieker Receives High State Award

Volker Wieker with a high state award in recognition of his decades-long efforts in the interest of the Hungarian Defence Forces. The award was presented by Minister of Defence Csaba Hende.

Minister of Defence Csaba Hende presented the Inspector General (Chief of Staff) of the Bundeswehr with the Medium Cross of the Hungarian Medal of Merit with the star in the Ministry of Defence on Friday, January 30. German Ambassador Lieselore Cyrus also attended the event.
Volker Wieker received the medal for his decades-long efforts in the interest of developing Hungary’s defence capability and the military technology and personnel of the Hungarian Defence Forces, as well as for his contributions to allied peace enforcement, peacekeeping and humanitarian missions.
In his speech given after the presentation of the award, Gen. Volker Wieker noted that the joint presence in Afghanistan, the Balkans and Africa does not only symbolize our military past and traditions, but also strengthens our commitment to peace.
Gen. Volker Wieker visited Hungary to take over the medal, and on this occasion, he also had a closed-door meeting with Chief of Defence Gen. Dr. Tibor Benkő.
