The Millenary Park provided the venue on Saturday, October 15 for the Governmental Career Expo, where the interested visitors could learn about the career paths available in the public sphere, the opportunities of the public service career. On behalf of the MoD and the HDF at the event present were: Dr. Csaba Hende, Minister of Defence, Dr. István Simicskó, MoD Parliamentary State Secretary, Lajos Fodor, MoD State Secretary for Public Administration, General Dr. Tibor Benkő, Chief of the MoD Defence Staff, the MoD Deputy State Secretaries responsible for legal and administrative affairs: Dr. Gábor Márki, Dr. Péter Siklósi, Dr. István Dankó, and the Chief of the MoD Cabinet Office Dr. Gábor Szarka.

Dr. Csaba Hende said that the objective of the exhibition is to give the youth a comprehensive, realistic picture in the framework of a representative, well-organised expo which is about the opportunities offered for them in the public service sphere, and the tasks and obligations related to these. This exhibition serves a dual purpose however, as the public sphere also needs the best possible employees drawn on the widest circle for the benefit of the State of Hungary, the nation and for the common good. The Minister told us that the public sphere even today offers stable jobs, factual courses of life for those who perform their tasks conscientiously following their entry into the system. Dr. Csaba Hende underlined: the National Public Service University to be launched in 2012 will provide a complex educational program. With the diploma of this institution the cross-hiring between the individual areas of the public sphere will be much easier.

During the section-talk entitled “The Public Sphere and/or the Competitive Sphere – the competitiveness and the co-operation of the career-models prepared in the Ministries with the career-perspectives of the competitive sphere" the State Secretary for Public Administration of the Ministry of Justice and Public Administration Dr. András Levente Gál, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Interior Dr. László Felkai and the Chief of the MoD Cabinet Office Dr. Gábor Szarka exchanged ideas about the carrier opportunities and the career model in the public service.

Dr. Gábor Szarka pointed out that with the establishment of the National Public Service University and the Magyary program the way of thinking in public service will be informed by a different philosophy. The setting up of the National Public Service University will bring about substantial changes both in the civil public service, and in the law enforcement and military careers.

As the Chief of the Cabinet Office said, the integration of the Zrínyi Miklós National Defence University into the new higher education institution will not entail the loss of importance of the military training – quite the contrary, the professional education will be given even more emphasis. At the same time several opportunities will open up for the honvéd-officer cadets to acquire the necessary knowledge in the public administration system; they will be able to utilize this knowledge as soldiers on disaster management operations, and for instance in the ISAF mission in Afghanistan in keeping contact with the civilian population. Dr. Gábor Szarka underlined that the cause of home defence will regain its earlier position in the public thinking of Hungary in the coming era. He expressed his hopes that the common educational portfolio of the National Public Service University will be attractive for the youth.
