Gunners in the Sky and on the Ground

The soldiers of the HDF 25/88 Airmobile Battalion (Szolnok) conducted a live fire exercise on the shooting range of the Hungarian Defence Forces at Táborfalva. The ground-based live fire tactical training and the helicopter gunnery that took place on Monday, September 10 were part of the week-plus long multinational tactical helicopter exercise “Logical Decision 2012”.

During the first half of the day the personnel had the “mission" of approaching and capturing an installation defended by the “enemy". After the successful task execution, a Mi-17 transport helicopter of the HDF 86th Szolnok Helicopter Base joined the LFX, and its door gunners kept firing from the open onboard doors until they took out all the targets.

The training objective of this task was to have the gunners master and practice the procedures they need to carry out in situations where both the targets and their environment are moving all the time while they have the additional duty of protecting the helicopter.
