HAW: Transported Charity Fair

Szöveg: Gábor Kálmánfi |  2013. november 29. 9:00

Instead of the smell of kerosene, a charming mixture of Christmas smells filled the air at the HDF Pápa Base Airport, on Sunday, November 24. The families of the soldiers of the Heavy Airlift Wing (HAW) arranged an Advent fair, and offered the proceeds for charity.

Where soldiers of twelve different nations perform service, it is easy to imagine, what the fair of homemade dishes and Advent gifts means; inter alia knitted garments with Norwegian patterns, delicious Hungarian hips, or Finnish chocolate cakes – just a few examples from the cavalcade of the goods for sale.

Except for an elephant, you could buy almost everything that is available in a traditional (or less traditional) Christmas market, though this time it was quite useful to have a basic level English knowledge to do the shopping. While browsing and having lunch, we could hardly wait to find out, who would win the tombola, and could also listen to familiar Christmas carols in different languages.

Advent Fair – cavalcade

As Livia Jusztin-Majercsik, the co-worker of the NATO Airlift Management Programme (NAMP) Bureau said answering a question of honvedelem.hu: the idea of the charity fair was raised four years ago by Norwegian military families serving in Pápa, and all the other nations joined the initiative. The money raised during the event will be offered to the children with multiple disabilities of the Fenyveserdő Creché in Pápa this year.

Considering the proceeds of the past years, this is not a trifle gesture, as the sum usually reached the one million forints.
