KFOR commander Maj.-Gen. Giovanni Fungo honored the event with his presence. In his speech, the COMKFOR praised the high professionalism of the outgoing contingent and expressed deep appreciation for the results achieved during the Hungarian soldiers’ tour of duty in the last months.
Outgoing Contingent Commander Lt.-Col. Zoltán Virág spoke about the tasks carried out over the last few months and wished the soldiers of the incoming rotation a successful tour of duty.
In his speech delivered after receiving the unit colors, KFOR-16 HUNCON Commander Lt.-Col. Attila Budai emphasized that “the 16th rotation will have a complex mission here. Although the character of their tasks does not change as compared to those of earlier rotations, this time the Hungarians’ role will be different from what it has been so far. The Portuguese battalion is going to withdraw from Kosovo, so following the handover-takeover process to be completed in the coming months, the entire KFOR Tactical Reserve Maneuver Battalion (KTM) – a unit directly under COMKFOR Tactical Control – will be manned by the contingent of the Hungarian Defence Forces. The mission, however, remains the same: to preserve peace and stability."
After the speeches, the ceremony continued with handing over tokens of appreciation. Military Chaplain Lt. Kornél Horváth gave a blessing at the event.
