On 21–22 June, the MoD Department for International Cooperation organized a two-day program for defence, military and air attachés accredited to Hungary. A helicopter of the Hungarian Defence Forces took the attachés for a visit to the HDF 86th Szolnok Helicopter Base.

Base Commander Col. Dr. József Koller, the commander of the garrison welcomed the delegation, and introduced them to the structure and tasks of the military organization. In what followed, Col. Tamás Sándor, the commander of the HDF 2nd vitéz Bertalan Árpád Special Operations Forces Regiment informed the attachés about the functions as well as the recent and future tasks of the unit, and then Lt.-Col. Róbert Rédei, Deputy Commander, HDF Peace Support Training Centre described the purpose of the military organization, its special training events and courses.

After the presentations, the attachés were shown the Advanced Joint Terminal Attack Controller Training System (AJTS), which is a simulator for Joint Terminal Attack Controllers (JTAC). Afterwards they took a tour of the helicopter base to see the control tower, the classrooms for aircrews and ground crews, and tested their skills as pilots using the flight training simulators of the unit.

In the afternoon, the attachés visited the RepTár Military Aircraft Museum in Szolnok, which houses the largest aviation history exhibition in Central Eastern Europe. Inside the Indóház, they saw an exhibit on the history of Hungarian military aviation, and inside the Hangar they had time to take a closer look at the wide variety of aircraft, helicopters, surface-to-air missiles, radars and engines. While in the 4D movie theatre, they got the feel of flying and parachuting, and at the end of the guided tour, they walked around the aircraft on display in the open-air area.

On the second day, the attachés were shown the military equipment and weapons in service with the units, and the types of aircraft used in Szolnok garrison. Following a static display, the guests saw parachute jumps, and then a tactical demo followed, during which some “insurgents" took two UN peacekeepers hostage. After locating the site of captivity, a Special Operations Task Unit (SOTU) isolated the objective area and freed the captured soldiers.

At the end of the program, speaking on behalf of the delegation, Lt.-Col. Uwe Wilhelm Clemens, the doyen of the Budapest Military Attaché Corps (BMAC) said thanks for the two-day program.
