Szöveg: Gy.M. | 2015. február 7. 13:30This year again, the military ski patrol championship was organized as a result of cooperation among the garrison commanders of eight Central European capitals – Vienna, Berlin, Budapest, Bucharest, Ljubjana, Bratislava, Prague and Warsaw. The traditional sporting event took place between January 26––29 on a training base located 15 kilometers from Judenburg, Austria.
The team of the HDF vitéz Szurmay Sándor Budapest Garrison Brigade participated in the championship in this year too. The unit was represented by team leader Maj. György Mikus, 1st Lt. Zoltán Szentpéteri, SWO Gábor Palkovics, WO Imre Szombathelyi, SFC Attila Pásztor, Sgt. Attila Erdei and Sgt. Attila Kopecsni.
Two of the competitors have never taken part in this competition before, and one member of the team entered it for the first time last year, so half of the team was composed of novices.
While covering a 8.6 km distance, the team members had to fire assault rifles and throw hand-grenades. On the first 2.5 kilometers, the competitors faced a real challenge, as they had to climb up to the mountain top which is at an elevation of 1800 meters, starting from the start point located at 1550 meters. The other sectors of the course were easier, but they had to climb a slight upward slope even on the last kilometers.
The Hungarian team came in sixth in the competition of foreign teams, being adrift of the first three by a mere 6-minute margin, and finished 51st in the overall results.
