Led by the TACEVAL team of the HDF Joint Force Command, the national evaluation of capabilities at the HDF 59th Szentgyörgyi Dezső Air Base, Kecskemét has been successfully completed. The official records end with the words “Mission Capable”.

With the NATO accession in 1999, Hungary accepted the NATO standards and requirements, undertaking that NATO will evaluate the declared forces. For Air Force units, this takes the form of Tactical Evaluation (TACEVAL), which involves a simulated tactical situation.

Among others, the evaluators assess how the subunits respond to challenges and inspect whether they have the proper practical skills to operate the equipment and systems. This time the evaluation of the Air Base meant the inspection of the QRA forces in line with NATO ACO Forces Standards and the SHAPE Tactical Evaluation Manual (STEM).

The expanded evaluation consisted of two parts. The first phase was the air-to-air missile firing campaign and gunnery with autocannon (the exercise Air Superiority 2012) conducted on the Vidsel Test Range, Sweden between March 16 and 23.

During the second phase, between April 23 and 26, the designated personnel of the Kecskemét Air Base were certified for theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The flight crews and the aircraft maintenance technicians’ individual common core skills (ICCS) were tested with regard to ground defence (weapon skills), first aid, CBRN defence, fire safety and security procedures.

At the end of the evaluation, Brig.-Gen. Nándor Kilián, the commander of the base received the NATEVAL 2012 certificate with the qualification “Mission Capable" on it.
