Airport to take over donations symbolically. While the adults were having an informal
discussion on the educational systems of the two nations, the children were spending their
time playing various games.
Although the Sardar Monammad Dand Khan School, where the
guests came from, is basically a girls’ school, the pupils in the first three grades include boys
as well. It has a staff of around 110 teachers for the curriculum subjects, – most of whom
graduated from the University of Kabul –, and is attended by close to 5,000 students studying
in 12 grades.
The school is located in Kabul, 2-3 kilometers from the ISAF camp. The Hungarian soldiers
handed over 150 kits of school equipment to the teachers and students visiting the airport.
These kits contain exercise books, crayons, pencils, pens and erasers. The donation was
needed because of the resuming school year, since education in Afghanistan is suspended for
the winter period from December to early March, during which the schools are unheated.
According to plans, the Hungarian contingent is going to come into contact with several
schools and distribute donations in the near future.
